Chapter on the Appointed Executor
A Muslim may validly appoint as executor any legally accountable, upright, and prudent individual, even a slave,¹ and the slave may accept the appointment only with his master’s permission. If the testator names Zayd as executor and, after him, ʿAmr without dismissing Zayd, the two share the responsibility; neither of them may act single-handedly in any matter that has not been specifically entrusted to him.
(1) The word mukallaf (legally accountable) is absent from manuscript “A,” but appears in all the other copies.
