If he1 designates one-third of his estate in a bequest and later acquires new property—even the blood-money payment known as diyah—that new property is automatically covered by the bequest.
When a specific item is bequeathed to someone and that item is destroyed, the bequest becomes void. However, if the whole estate is lost while that particular item remains, the item passes to the legatee, provided its value does not exceed one-third of the wealth that ultimately reaches the heirs.
1 In manuscripts “J” and “M”: “awsa.”
