Chapter on Ijārah (Hire/Lease)
An ijārah contract is valid only when three conditions are fulfilled:
-
The benefit must be clearly identified—for instance, lodging in a house, the service of a person, or the teaching of knowledge.
-
The wage must be known. It is acceptable, however, for a wage-worker or a wet-nurse to be paid in the form of their food and clothing, and likewise when someone enters a bathhouse or boards a boat, or hands his garment to a launderer or a tailor.
