Chapter: The Procedure for Ḥajj and ʿUmrah
It is recommended for residents of Mecca who are not yet in a state of ihram to enter ihram for ḥajj on the Day of Tarwiyah, before the sun reaches its zenith. Entering ihram from any other location within the Sacred Precinct (ḥaram) is also valid. The pilgrim then spends the night in Mina, and when the sun rises he proceeds to ʿArafah, every part of which is a valid place for standing except the valley of ʿUranah.
It is likewise recommended to combine the ẓuhr and ʿaṣr prayers, to stand mounted near the rocks at Jabal al-Raḥmah, and to engage in abundant supplication, including the reported invocations for that occasion.1
(1) The word fihi ("in it") is omitted in the B and M manuscripts.
