Risālah fī al-Qurʾān wa-Kalām AllāhIbn Qudama

Nor did He challenge them to produce something they neither recognized nor knew anything about.

Allah Himself called it Arabic and affirmed that it is the Book, saying: “Alif-Lām-Rā. These are the verses of the clear Book. Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an so that you may reason.”¹

He also said: “Ḥā-Mīm. By the clear Book—We have made it an Arabic Qur’an so that you may understand.”²

Hence, whoever rejects that the Qur’an is this very Arabic Book is among those who do not use their reason.

One of the clearest proofs of this is that the disbelievers declared, “This is poetry,” and Allah—exalted is He—answered them: “We have not taught him poetry, nor does it befit him; it is only a reminder and a Qur’an.”
