and He said: “Indeed, this Qur’an guides to that which is most upright” 1, and “Indeed, this Qur’an relates…” 2. The word “this” clearly points to something presently before us, and the scripture that relates and guides is none other than this Arabic Book.
He further said: “We have certainly diversified [the message] in this Qur’an” 3;
and: “We have surely set forth for mankind in this Qur’an every kind of parable” 4. The very text in which these examples were diversified and presented is precisely this tangible, existing Book.
And He said: “Say: If all mankind and the jinn were to gather together to produce the like of this Qur’an, they would never produce its like.” 5

(2) Surah an-Naml (The Ant), verse 76.
(3) Surah al-Isrā’, verse 41.
(4) Surah ar-Rūm (The Romans), verse 58; the original text contains a misprint where the verse appears as “walaqad darabnā fī hādhā al-Qurʾān li-n-nāsi min kulli mathal” (And indeed We have presented in this Qurʾān for mankind every parable).
(5) Surah al-Isrā’, verse 88.
