If rain is sent down, the matter is settled; if not, they go out again a second and even a third time.
It is recommended to stand under the first drops of rain, to perform ablution and to bathe in it, and1 to place one’s bedding and clothes outside so that the rain may touch them.
If the rainfall becomes so heavy that harm is feared, it is recommended2 to say:
“O Allah, let it fall around us, not upon us. O Allah, upon the hillocks, the knolls, the valley beds, and the places where trees grow.”
—and to recite: “Our Lord, do not burden us with that which we have no strength to bear…” (Quran 2:286).
It is further recommended to say, “We have been given rain by the grace and mercy of Allah,”3 while it is forbidden to say, “We have been given rain by the rising of such-and-such a star,”4 although it is permitted to say, “It rained during the period of such-and-such a star.”
