It is unlawful to speak while the imam is delivering the sermon if one is close enough to hear him; speaking becomes permissible when he falls silent between the two sermons or when he begins a supplication.
It is likewise forbidden to hold the Friday prayer or the Eid prayer1 in more than one place within the same town, except out of necessity—such as overcrowding, long distances, or fear of discord. If several congregations are held without such need, the one whose worshippers pronounce the opening takbīr first is the valid one.
Whoever enters the Friday prayer during its appointed time and manages to catch one rak‘ah with the imam completes it as Friday prayer. If he catches less than a rak‘ah, he makes the intention for the noon prayer instead.
The minimum recommended rakaʿāt2 after it are two and the maximum is six3.
It is recommended4 to recite Sūrat al-Kahf5 on that day, and in the dawn prayer of that day to recite “Alif-Lām-Mīm al-Sajdah” (32) in the first rak‘ah and “Has There Come”6 (76) in the second; persisting in this every week, however, is disliked.
