Section on the Prayer of Fear
The prayer of fear is valid so long as the fighting itself is lawful, whether one is resident or 3 travelling.
Fear does not alter the number of rakʿahs; it only affects the manner of performance and certain ancillary conditions.
When the fear becomes intense, they may pray on foot or 4 mounted, whether facing the qiblah or not. It is not required that the opening takbīr be pronounced while facing it; they may simply gesture 5 according to their ability.
The same dispensation applies when fleeing from an enemy—provided that such flight is permissible—or from a flood, a predatory beast, a fire, an oppressive claimant, or out of fear of missing 6 the time for standing at ʿArafah. It also applies when one fears for his own life, his family, or his property, or is warding off harm from these things or 7 from another person’s life.
