It is treated as speech—and therefore breaks the prayer—if he clears his throat without need, or blows in such a way that two distinct letters are produced, or sobs for some motive other than fear⦗1⦘, or if he blows and two letters are thereby articulated. It does not⦗2⦘ invalidate the prayer, however, if he speaks while asleep, if words slip out during his recitation, or if he is overcome by coughing, sneezing, yawning, or weeping.
(1) In manuscript “M,” the phrase “or he sobbed, not out of fear” follows the wording “or he blew so that two letters became distinct.” Manuscript “A” reads “not out of fear of Allah,” and the same reading appears in “M.”
(2) Manuscript “N” has wa-la (“and not”), with the additional conjunction waw.
