The husband is entitled to enjoy his wife1 at any time and in whatever manner he wishes, provided that he neither harms her nor diverts her from her obligatory duties.
She may not offer voluntary prayer or fasting while he is present except with his permission.
He is permitted to have her perform manual stimulation for him2 and may travel without her leave. It is forbidden for him to have anal intercourse with her, to approach her during menstruation or the like, or to practise withdrawal without her consent. It is disliked for him to kiss or fondle her in public view, to speak excessively during intercourse, or for either of them to divulge what3 took place between them.
It is recommended that he engage in foreplay with her before intercourse, that he cover his head, that4 he not face the qiblah, and that he say at the time of intimacy: “In the name of Allah. O Allah, keep Satan away from us and keep Satan away from what You provide for us.”5 It is also recommended that the woman prepare a cloth and hand it to her husband after intercourse has concluded.
