It is likewise forbidden for a man who is not a maḥram to be alone with a woman—and, conversely, for a woman to be alone with a non-maḥram man.

It is unlawful to make an explicit marriage proposal to a woman observing the waiting period of an irrevocable divorce; only indirect hints are permitted, and even those are impermissible when she is in a revocable waiting period.

It is also forbidden to propose to a woman after the proposal of a fellow Muslim has already been accepted, although a marriage contract concluded in spite of this prohibition remains valid.
