Chapter on Salam (forward sale)
A salam contract is concluded by any wording that conveys the idea of exchange, including the expression “sale.” It has seven conditions.

First: The qualities of the item to be delivered must be precisely delineated. This requirement applies to goods sold by volume, by weight, by linear measure, or by numerical count in the case of animals2—even human beings. A salam contract is not valid for fruits sold merely by count, nor for items that cannot be strictly standardized, such as leafy greens, hides, heads, shanks, eggs, or utensils whose necks and middles vary, like flasks and the like.

(2) In copy N the reading is "al-hayawanat" (animals).
