Hunting within the Sacred Precinct of Mecca is prohibited, and it carries the same ruling as hunting while one is in ihram⦗1⦘. Cutting its trees or grass is likewise forbidden, and in this matter the resident and the pilgrim in ihram are treated alike. The compensation⦗2⦘ is as follows: for a tree regarded as small by customary standards, a sheep; for anything larger, a cow. Grass and leaves are compensated⦗3⦘ for by paying their market value.
A cow may replace a camel (badana)⦗4⦘ and vice versa, and a single camel or cow substitutes for seven sheep.
The term “obligatory blood” refers to any animal that would be acceptable as an udhiyah sacrifice: a six-month-old lamb, a one-year-old goat, or one-seventh of a camel or⦗5⦘ cow. Should one slaughter an entire camel or an entire cow⦗6⦘, that is preferable, and the whole of it becomes due.
