Chapter: Ritual Ablution (wuḍūʾ)
Pronouncing the basmalah (saying “In the Name of Allah”) is obligatory for it; the obligation is waived if one forgets, yet if he remembers while in the midst of the ablution he should begin reciting it then.
Its six obligatory acts are: washing the face—which includes rinsing the mouth and sniffing water into the nostrils—washing the hands together with the elbows[1], wiping the entire head, the ears being part of it, washing the feet together with the ankles, observing the prescribed order, and maintaining continuity.
Its eight conditions are: cessation of what requires the ablution, niyyah (intention), being Muslim, sanity, discernment, pure and lawfully obtained water, removing anything that blocks the water, and istijmār (cleansing with stones).
