for an obligatory purification, to remove a physical impurity, or to attend the Friday prayer he is required to join; nor is it invalidated if he goes out to obtain food and drink1 because he has no servant, and he may walk at his customary pace.

It is commendable for anyone who heads to the mosque to intend iʿtikāf for the whole period he remains there—especially if he is fasting.
