It is disliked to single out Rajab, or Friday, or Saturday1 for fasting.
It is likewise disliked to fast on the “day of doubt”—the thirtieth of Shaʿbān—when the sky is clear of cloud or haze; and it is forbidden to fast on the two Eids and on the days of Tashrīq.
Whoever commences a voluntary fast is not required to complete it, whereas one who begins an obligatory fast must do so unless he changes his intention and treats it as voluntary.
(1) Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyya maintained that fasting exclusively on a Saturday is not reprehensible and that the hadith concerned is either anomalous (shaadh) or abrogated; see Majmuʿ al-Fatawa, 3:123.
