(1) Al-Bukhārī records the ḥadith in his Ṣaḥīḥ, Book of Aḥkām, chapter 4, in the book entitled al-Āḥād, chapter 1, and in the Book of Maghāzī, chapter 59; Muslim in his Ṣaḥīḥ, Book of Imārah, ḥadiths 39–40; Abū Dāwūd in his Sunan, Book of Jihād, chapter 87; al-Nasāʾī in his Sunan, Book of Bayʿah, chapter 34; and Aḥmad in the Musnad, 1:82, 94, 124. Al-Suyūṭī lists it in al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr, no. 9902, and declares it sound (ṣaḥīḥ). (2) Reported by Aḥmad in the Musnad and by al-Ḥākim in the Mustadrak on the authority of ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn. Al-Haythamī cites it in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid, commenting, “Aḥmad’s transmitters are the men of the Ṣaḥīḥ.” Al-Baghawī transmits it from al-Nawwās, and Ibn Ḥibbān from ʿAlī with the wording: “There is no obedience to any human being that involves disobedience to Allah.” It has corroborating chains in both Ṣaḥīḥs, and al-Suyūṭī includes it in al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr, grading it authentic.
