a report from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that conflicted with his own practice, he must set aside his practice in favor of the Messenger of Allah’s report. This likewise shows that a hadith of the Messenger of Allah stands on its own authority; it is not validated by the later actions of anyone else.1
