Tamam al-MinnahNasir al-Din al-Albani

His words:

  1. From Ibn ʿUmar: “Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out on campaign or on a journey and night overtook him, he would say, ‘O earth! My Lord and your Lord is Allah ….’” Narrated by Aḥmad and Abū Dāwūd.

I say: In its chain is an unknown narrator, as I have explained in Silsilat al-Aḥādīth al-Ḍaʿīfah 4837 and in my notes on al-Kalim al-Ṭayyib no. 180. The annotator of Sharḥ al-Sunnah 5/147 claimed that it has a supporting narration from ʿĀʾishah, but that is a pure mistake, for it is an entirely different text, cited later together with a clarification of its weakness. Protection is only for those whom Allah protects.

His words:

  1. From ʿAṭāʾ b. Abī Marwān, from his father … that the Prophet ﷺ never saw a village he intended to enter without saying, on first sighting it, “O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all they shade ….” Narrated by al-Nasāʾī, Ibn Ḥibbān, and al-Ḥākim, and the latter two declared it authentic.

I say: The ḥadīth is sound, but not through this chain, for Abū Marwān is unknown, as al-Nasāʾī himself observed—and as I noted in my commentary on al-Kalim al-Ṭayyib no. 178. I later found that al-Nasāʾī also recorded it in ʿAmal al-Yawm wa’l-Laylah no. 543 through a different, authentic chain. Consequently, I included it in al-Ṣaḥīḥah no. 2759 and summarised the matter in my second edition of al-Kalim al-Ṭayyib. Praise be to Allah, by whose grace righteous deeds are perfected.

His words:

  1. From ʿĀʾishah: “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ overlooked a land he wished to enter, he would say, ‘O Allah, I ask You for the good of this land and the good that is gathered within it ….’” Narrated by Ibn al-Sunnī.

I say: Its chain is weak; it contains ʿĪsā b. Maymūn, the client of al-Qāsim b. Muḥammad—al-Ḥāfiẓ judged him “weak.” Yet he strengthened the report in Takhrīj al-Adhkār by linking it to the earlier ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar, which he cited via two routes, one being the route found in al-Awsat whose chain the author deemed sound. This is also the judgement of al-Haythamī in Majmaʿ 10/134; see Ibn ʿAllān 5/158–159 and al-Ṣaḥīḥah 2759.
