Tamam al-MinnahNasir al-Din al-Albani

Likewise, under the Prayer of Need he writes: “Aḥmad has transmitted with a sound chain from Abū al-Dardāʾ that the Prophet ﷺ said, ‘Whoever performs ablution and perfects it, then prays two rakʿahs, completing them, Allah will grant him whatever he asks—either immediately or later.’”

I say: On what grounds can it be deemed sound when the chain contains an unidentified narrator? In the Musnad 6/442–443 the report comes through Maymūn Abū Muḥammad al-Marāʾī al-Mīmimī. Ibn Maʿīn said, “I do not know him.” Ibn ʿAdī remarked, “In that case he is unknown.” For this reason al-Dhahabī stated, “He is not known.” Consult, if you wish, al-Mīzān, al-Lisān, and Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid 2/278.
