Concerning the Duḥā (mid-morning) prayer:
After he quoted—when speaking of its virtue—the ḥadith in which Allah, Blessed and Exalted, says: “Son of Adam, do not neglect four rakʿahs at the beginning of the day and I shall suffice you for its rest,” he added,
“It was reported by Aḥmad, al-Tirmidhī, Abū Dāwūd and al-Nasāʾī from Nuʿaym al-Ghaṭafānī with a good chain; al-Tirmidhī’s wording is: ‘…from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ …’”
I say: This formulation gives the impression that all of the scholars named transmitted it through Nuʿaym, but that is not the case. Only Aḥmad and Abū Dāwūd narrated it from him, and its isnād is sound according to Muslim’s criterion, as stated in al-Irwāʾ 462; Ibn Ḥibbān also declared it authentic, no. 634.
As for al-Tirmidhī, he recorded it with the wording cited by the compiler, on the authority of Abū al-Dardāʾ and Abū Dharr; its chain is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ, and it too is traced in al-Irwāʾ 465.
Regarding al-Nasāʾī, the ḥadith does not appear in the printed edition of his al-Sunan al-Ṣughrā. If the attribution to him is correct, it was perhaps included in his al-Sunan al-Kubrā or in ʿAmal al-Yawm wa’l-Laylah; however, once that latter work was published it proved not to contain it. The remaining likelihood, therefore, is that it is found in the Kubrā, and al-Mizzī has indeed attributed it to al-Nasāʾī there in Tuhfat al-Ashrāf 9/34.
