And among the supplications to be said after the final tashahhud and before the salām are the following:
His statement: 6 – Shaddād ibn Aws said: The Prophet ﷺ used to say in his prayer: “O Allah, I ask You for firmness in the matter …” Narrated by al-Nasaʾi.
I say: On the face of it, its chain of transmission (isnād) is sound, yet it contains a serious flaw. Al-Nasaʾi related it through Ḥammād ibn Salamah from Saʿīd al-Jarīrī from Abū l-ʿAlāʾ from Shaddād. All of these men are trustworthy; however, Yazīd ibn Hārūn and al-Thawrī also narrated it from al-Jarīrī, inserting between Abū l-ʿAlāʾ and Shaddād an unidentified man from Banī Ḥanẓalah. That unknown narrator is the weak point in the hadith—so it becomes clear. Furthermore, the report is unrestricted; it is not limited to the tashahhud. Reflect on this.
His statement: 9 – Ibn Masʿūd reported that the Prophet ﷺ taught him to say this supplication: “O Allah, unite our hearts and reconcile what is between us …” Narrated by Abū Dāwūd.
I say: Citing it to Abū Dāwūd is incorrect, for it is not found in his Sunan, nor did al-Nābulusī include it among the narrations of Ibn Masʿūd in his Dhakhāʾir. When al-Suyūṭī quoted it in al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr he attributed it only to al-Ṭabarānī and al-Ḥākim; had it been in the Sunan he would have said so. Likewise, al-Haythamī mentioned it in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid, because he does not cite there anything transmitted by any of the Six Collections. Al-Haythamī then said (10/179): “It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in both al-Kabīr and al-Awsat, and the chain in al-Kabīr is good.”
I have reviewed the Kitāb al-Duʿāʾ in the Mustadrak, as well as the section on Ibn Masʿūd in the chapter on merits, and I did not find it. Let this be re-examined.
