Concerning istiḥāḍah (non-menstrual bleeding)
His words: “And on the authority of ʿIkrimah ibn Ḥamnah that she suffered from istiḥāḍah … transmitted by Abū Dāwūd and al-Bayhaqī.”
I say: The copy before us likewise reads “ʿIkrimah ibn Ḥamnah”1—a remarkable typographical slip! The likely original is “ʿIkrimah from Ḥamnah,” meaning Ḥamnah bint Jahsh, for that is exactly how it appears in Sunan Abū Dāwūd. If that is so, what is the point of mentioning ʿIkrimah at all and beginning the citation with him, especially since this contradicts the concise style the author normally follows in the book?
Furthermore, the name “Ḥamnah” is also printed here with a kasrah on the mīm, and the same error occurred earlier in the discussion of istiḥāḍah. The correct form is Ḥamnah, with the mīm quiescent, as found in al-Mughnī by Shaykh al-Fattānī, al-Qāmūs, and other references.
