“Make a distinction for us between this Lord you affirm and sheer non-existence!”
He truly spoke the truth—may Allah have mercy on him—for non-existence itself could not be depicted more forcibly than by the description they have given of the Creator, exalted is He1.
Accordingly, whoever says, “He is neither separate from the world nor within it,” is just like one who says, “He neither subsists by Himself nor by anything else; He is neither eternal nor originated, neither prior to the world nor concurrent with it.”
And whoever says, “He is not living, not hearing, not seeing, and not speaking,” is thereby bound to affirm that He is dead, deaf, blind, and mute2.
in 389 AH. The Abbasid caliph al-Qadir Billah sent him the robe of investiture for the sultanate. He then turned to Khurasan, and his dominion extended from the farthest reaches of India to Nishapur. Of Turkic origin, he was articulate, eloquent, resolute, sound in judgment, courageous, and devoted to jihad. He achieved immense conquests in the non-Muslim lands of India, unmatched by any king before or after him. Despite this, he was exceedingly pious and morally upright: he detested sins, frivolous amusements, and those who engaged in them; loved scholars and righteous people; and sat with and debated them. He died in Ghazna in 421-422 AH, at the age of sixty-three, having ruled there for thirty-three years. May Allah have mercy on him and grant him an honorable resting place.
