wrap it in a shroud and carry it up to the heavens. Yet for all of this, human minds remain incapable of grasping its essence and true nature, as the Most High has said: “They ask you about the spirit. Say: The spirit is by command of my Lord, and you have been given of knowledge only a little” (al-Isrāʾ 17:85).
If, then, the soul is an actual entity, and the qualities ascribed to it in the Quran and Sunnah are likewise real—despite the fact that it resembles none of the tangible bodies we observe—it follows even more surely that the Creator’s possession of the attributes of perfection, while being wholly distinct from His creatures, is beyond doubt. Indeed, the inability of human intellects to define or qualify Allah is more evident than their inability to define or qualify the soul.
Therefore, if someone who denies the soul’s attributes is a repudiating nullifier, and someone who likens it to created things is ignorant of it and an anthropomorphist, then—far more so—is the Creator, glorified be He, above such treatment: whoever denies His attributes is a repudiating nullifier, and whoever measures Him against His creation is ignorant of Him and an anthropomorphist.
