A believer is commanded to carry out what he has been ordered, to refrain from what is forbidden, and to remain patient with whatever has been decreed. Allah the Exalted says: “O you who believe, persevere, vie with one another in perseverance, stand firm on the frontier, and be mindful of Allah so that you may succeed” (3:200). He also says: “Whoever is mindful of Allah and patient—surely Allah does not allow the reward of those who excel to be lost” (12:90). And He relates of Luqman: “My dear son, establish the prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and bear patiently whatever befalls you; indeed, that is of the matters requiring firm resolve” (31:17).
