Taqrib al-TadmuriyyahIbn al-'Uthaymin

Section: The Error of the Majority of the Scholastic Theologians in Defining Tawḥīd

  • From the foregoing exposition of the divisions of tawḥīd it becomes evident that most scholastic theologians have erred in their conception of monotheism, for they have reduced it to three categories:

    1. Allah is one in His essence: He has no equal, no component, and no part.
    2. He is one in His attributes: He has no counterpart.
    3. He is one in His acts: He has no partner.
  • Their error may be shown from several angles:

    First: They excluded tawḥīd al-ulūhiyya—that Allah Most High is one in His Godhood, having no associate, so that He alone is worshipped—

    – even though this very aspect of tawḥīd is the reason for which the jinn and humankind were created;
