This hadith should never have become a point of contention or doubt regarding its authenticity—whatever may be said about its chain or its wording—were it not that some people champion their own schools of law more fiercely than the firmly established revelation from their Prophet, simply because it is what they are accustomed to. O Allah, grant us Your mercy and Your guidance.
2 – The juridical import of the hadith and those who upheld it
Once it is established that the hadith is authentic in its affirmative wording, it is an unequivocal proof for the position taken by Imam Ishaq ibn Rahawayh, exactly as he related it.
the twenty rakʿahs—even though that report is not authentic; the reliable narration from him actually affirms the very sunnah we advocate, as we explained in detail in our reply entitled Salat al-Tarawih. I ask: where are those critics now that they have unanimously chosen to contradict ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab, the noble Companions with him, and the great early generations in this very matter, even though the sound sunnah is on their side? All praise belongs to Allah, who has enabled us to follow the sunnah here and elsewhere. We beseech Him for further grace and success; we equally ask Him to guide the dissenters to it, to let us live and die upon it, and to gather us under the banner of its bearer—peace and blessings be upon him—on the Day when neither wealth nor children will avail, except for the one who comes to Allah with a sound heart (Q 26:88–89).
لحري ألا يكون موضع جدل وتردد في صحته مهما قيل في إسناده أو في متنه لولا أن بعض الناس يتعصبون لمذاهبهم ما لا يتعصبون للشرع الثابت عن نبيهم اتباعا لما ألفوه فاللهم رحمتك وهداك.
٢ - فقه الحديث ومن قال به.
إذا تبين أن الحديث صحيح بلفظ الإثبات فهو حجة واضحة لما ذهب إليه الإمام إسحق بن راهويه كما حكاه.
= الركعات العشرين مع أنها لا تثبت عنه بل الصحيح عنه موافق لما ندعو إليه من السنة كما بيناه مفصلا في ردنا عليهم في "صلاة التراويح" أقول: أين هؤلاء من إطباقهم على مخالفة عمر بن الخطاب ومن معه من الصحابة الكرام والسلف العظام في هذه المسألة لا سيما والسنة الصحيحة معهم فالحمد لله الذي وفقنا لتباع السنة هنا وهناك ونسأله المزيد من فضله وتوفيقه كما نسأله أن يهدي المخالفين إليها وأن يحيينا ويميتنا عليها وأن يحشرنا تحت لواء صاحبها ﵊: ﴿يَوْمَ لا يَنْفَعُ مَالٌ وَلا بَنُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ﴾
