The Shaykh contends that the hadith of Abu Basrah, in his estimation, does not establish the ruling we seek. It appears, for that very reason, that he set it aside altogether and offered no reply, for the report is evidence against his position. We would prefer to absolve the Shaykh of such selectivity, yet the matter does require his cooperation. In fact, the hadith of Abu Basrah just mentioned serves as a second corroborating witness for the narration, and—God willing—we shall soon respond to the Shaykh’s observations concerning it.
