2 – Muḥammad Nāṣir al-Dīn says, seeking the help of Allah alone, Lord of all creation:
The Shaykh’s remarks boil down to four points:
- His declaring the ḥadīth of Anas weak;
- The legal understanding (fiqh) of that ḥadīth and those who upheld it;
- His declaring the ḥadīth of Abū Baṣrah al-Ghifārī weak;
- His claim that the latter report, in his view, does not prove what the ḥadīth of Anas proves.
I shall address these points one after another, in the order just listed, asking the Almighty—glorified and exalted be He—to inspire me with what is right in all of this and to grant the sincere success in accepting it and acting on the jurisprudence it contains. Indeed, He is All-Hearing, Ever-Responsive.
1 – Affirming the soundness of the ḥadīth of Anas.
With regard to the ḥadīth of Anas, I have examined the Shaykh’s critique and found in it nothing but a greater clarity of its soundness and a firmer conviction of the weakness of his argument and the fragility of the evidence to which he clings in declaring it weak—for he has produced nothing that validly supports his claim.
