Ibn Abī al-Dunyā likewise records—on the authority of Abū Umāmah, traced back to the Prophet ﷺ:
“Some people from this community will spend the night eating and drinking, only to awaken transformed into apes and swine.”
The report goes on to say:
“—because of their drinking wine, consuming ribā (usury), taking songstresses, wearing silk, and cutting the ties of kinship.”
It was narrated by al-Ḥākim 4/515, al-Bayhaqī in Shuʿab al-Īmān 5/16, Aḥmad 5/329, Ibn Abī al-Dunyā 1/2, and al-Aṣbahānī in al-Targhīb 1/498–499; likewise by al-Ṭayālisī 155/1137, and from him by Abū Nuʿaym in al-Ḥilyah 6/295 and Ibn ʿAsākir in al-Tārīkh 8/659, all through the route of Farqad al-Sabakhī, who said: “ʿĀṣim b. ʿAmr narrated it to me from him.” Al-Ḥākim and al-Dhahabī graded the ḥadith ṣaḥīḥ, yet it still warrants scrutiny, which I have detailed in al-Ṣaḥīḥah 1604.
Even so, this portion of the narration is undeniably sound in view of the corroborating chains, and it has also come from Farqad through several other routes that are discussed there.
Another report comes from Anas b. Mālik, who related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“When my community declares six things lawful, destruction will descend upon them: when mutual cursing becomes widespread, they drink wine, wear silk, take songstresses, men content themselves with men, and women with women.”
