I say: His leaning toward the Rāfiḍī school does not injure his ḥadith, and whatever slips he made are safeguarded by parallel chains or corroborating narrations that confirm his retention of it, as I shall shortly demonstrate.
The mursal report of al-Aʿmash that al-Tirmidhī cited in suspended form has been given a continuous chain by Abū ʿAmr al-Dānī, folio 40/2, through Ḥammād b. ʿAmr from al-Aʿmash.
Yet this Ḥammād is discarded (matrūk), so his version cannot outweigh that of Ibn ʿAbd al-Quddūs. Nevertheless, al-Aʿmash is supported by a corroborating route through Layth b. Abī Sulaym in al-Dānī, folios 37/2 and 39/1.
Although Layth is well known for weakness, he too has a supporting strand. Ibn Abī al-Dunyā, folio 2/2, recorded:
“Isḥāq b. Ismāʿīl narrated to us; Jarīr narrated to us, from Abān b. Taghlib, from ʿAmr b. Murrah, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Ṣābit, who said: ‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said…,’ and he mentioned the report.”
I say: This is a sound mursal chain. All its transmitters are trustworthy—men cited by Muslim—apart from Isḥāq b. Ismāʿīl al-Ṭāliqānī, one of Abū Dāwūd’s teachers, and he was pronounced reliable.
The same appraisal was given by al-Dāraquṭnī, and ʿUthmān b. Kharzadh said: “Reliable, reliable.”
I later discovered yet another corroboration. Ibn Abī Shaybah, 15/164, no. 19391, said: “Wakīʿ from ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAmr b. Murrah, from his father,” with the same wording.
I say: This is a good chain; ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAmr b. Murrah is truthful, though he makes mistakes.
The report has also come to us mursal through another path, and with a connected chain as well—the latter being sounder—for Abū al-ʿAbbās
