“Allah has forbidden for my community wine, gambling, mizr (barley beer), the kūbah, and the qanīn, and He has added for me the Witr prayer.” Yazīd ibn Hārūn said: “The qanīn are the barābiṭ (stringed lutes).”
It was recorded by Aḥmad in the Musnad 2/165, 167 and in al-Ashribah 212, 214, and by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr 13/51-52/127.
I say: this chain is weak because of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Rāfiʿ—al-Tanūkhī, the judge—and Faraj ibn Faḍālah; moreover, his shaykh Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān is merely listed among those who narrate from their fathers, and I have found no independent biographical entry for him. In any case, the preceding routes and supporting reports provide ample benefit and sufficiency.
The fifth ḥadith: From Qays ibn Saʿd (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the standard-bearer of the Prophet ﷺ, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the same—that is, the statement reported earlier from the client of Ibn ʿAmr—and added: “and al-ghubayrāʾ; every intoxicant is unlawful.”
Al-Bayhaqī narrated it 10/222 through the route of Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥakam: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: al-Layth ibn Saʿd and Ibn Luhayʿah told me, from Yazīd ibn Abī Ḥabīb, from ʿAmr ibn al-Walīd ibn ʿAbdah, from Qays ibn Saʿd— with this wording. ʿAmr ibn al-Walīd added: “It has also reached me from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ in the same terms,” while al-Layth did not mention the qanīn. Al-Ṭabarānī likewise recorded it in al-Kabīr 13/15/20 through another chain from Yazīd.
I say: this isnād is ḥasan; its narrators are trustworthy, bearing in mind the uniqueness of Yazīd ibn Abī
