52 – Ishaq ibn Ismaʿil narrated to me; Jarir narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-ʿAziz ibn Rufayʿ, from Mujahid, who said:

A man from the Ansar had a guest, but the man himself was late in returning home. When he finally arrived he asked, “Have you given my guest his supper?” They answered, “No.” He declared, “By Allah, I will not touch your supper tonight.” His wife replied, “Then, by Allah, I will not eat it either.” The guest said, “Then, by Allah, I will not eat it either.” The man exclaimed, “Shall my guest spend the night without food?” Then he ordered, “Bring your food.” So he ate, and they ate together with him.

The next morning he went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of what had happened. The Prophet said, “You obeyed Allah and opposed Satan.”
