32 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn told me: al-Walid ibn Shujaʿ related to us, and al-Walid ibn Muslim related to us, from Layth ibn Saʿd, from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, who said:

“I once passed by a man from the early generations sitting at the entrance of his house, while the spacious courtyard behind him was crowded with tables and people eating their midday meal. I asked him, ‘Has the time for the Friday prayer overtaken you?’ He answered, ‘My shirt is drying.’ I said, ‘Do you have nothing but this one shirt?’”

Yazid continued, “Indeed, he owned only that single shirt, even though the courtyard of his house was packed with banquet tables.”
