30 – Sulayman ibn Abi Shaykh said: Abu Sufyan al-Himyari narrated to us, from ʿAbbad ibn Mahan, the freedman of the Kurayz family, who reported: Whenever ʿAbd al-Aʿlā wished to take lunch and those of his companions who wished to join him had gathered, he would call for the food and say, “Eat,” while he himself busied himself elsewhere—reclining and staring at the ceiling until they were almost finished. Then he would sit up and say, “Bring it back to me,” whereupon they would resume eating, and no one left his presence except thoroughly stuffed.
