Qira al-DayfIbn Abi al-Dunya

29 – ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Qurayb al-Bāhilī narrated to me; my uncle narrated to me; Ṣaqr ibn Ḥabīb narrated to me, saying: “The daily table of ʿAbd al-Aʿlā ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿĀmir ibn Kurayz held fifteen qafiz, together with whatever completed it of meat, sweets, and the like. Whenever a platter was removed it was set on a ledge in the courtyard; when the guests had finished, the door was opened and anyone who was poor—or anyone else—was admitted. They ate, and not a morsel was reclaimed.”
