Qira al-DayfIbn Abi al-Dunya

21 – Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Muḥammad b. ʿImrān b. Abī Laylā narrated to us; ʿĪsā b. Yūnus reported to us, from al-Awzāʿī, from Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr, who said:

Each day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ received from Saʿd b. ʿUbādah a large wooden bowl of tharid (bread crumbled into meat broth). That platter would accompany him wherever he moved among the dwellings of his wives. And whenever he finished one of the obligatory prayers he would say:

“O Allah, grant me wealth with which I can support my works, for nothing puts works right except wealth.”
