Chapter Three
On the Merit of Prayer in Jerusalem
And the Merit of Performing Hajj and Praying in the Mosque of Medina and al-Aqsā Mosque in a Single Year
It is narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar—may Allah be pleased with them both—that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—say:
“Prayer in Jerusalem is better than a thousand prayers in the surrounding places, except in the Sacred Mosque and this mosque of mine.”
Abū al-Dardāʾ—may Allah be pleased with him—narrated that the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“Prayer in the Sacred Mosque is worth a hundred thousand prayers elsewhere, prayer in my mosque a thousand prayers, and prayer in the mosque of Jerusalem five hundred prayers.”
In another hadith, Abū al-Muhājir—may Allah be pleased with him—reported that the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“Whoever prays in Jerusalem will have all his sins forgiven.”
Anas ibn Mālik—may Allah be pleased with him—reported that the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“A man’s prayer in his home is worth one prayer; his prayer in a tribal mosque is worth twenty-five prayers; his prayer in a congregational mosque is worth five hundred prayers; his prayer in al-Aqsā Mosque is worth fifty thousand prayers; and his prayer in the Sacred Mosque is worth a hundred thousand prayers.”
