Chapter Five
On the Merit of Charity and Fasting in Jerusalem, and the Months of the Pilgrimage Season

Al-Hasan al-Basrī said: “Whoever gives a dirham in charity in Jerusalem, it will be his ransom from the Fire. Whoever gives a loaf of bread in charity there is like one who gives the earth’s mountains in gold.”

Muqātil said: “Whoever fasts for a day in Jerusalem will be granted deliverance from the Fire.”

Al-Suddī, may Allah have mercy on him, said: “Elijah and al-Khidr fast the month of Ramadan in Jerusalem and attend the pilgrimage every year.”
