al-Fawāris, among others, stated that he died with ten days remaining in Jumada al-Akhirah of the year 351 AH.
Abū ʿAbd Allah al-Ḥākim erred, claiming that the death occurred on the tenth of Dhū al-Ḥijjah in 353 AH.
I say: the correct year is 351.
In that same year also died: Abū Isḥāq al-Hujaymī, who had lived a little beyond one hundred; Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar ibn al-Ward, the transmitter of the Sīrah in Egypt; the leading master of Qur’an reciters and exegetes in Baghdad, Abū Bakr al-Naqqāsh; the ḥadīth scholar of Kūfah, Abū Jaʿfar ibn Duḥaym; and the musnid of Baghdad, Maymūn ibn Isḥāq, proprietor of al-ʿUṭāridī.
Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī narrated to us; al-Bahāʾ ʿAbd al-Raḥmān likewise narrated to us. In another chain, Abū Jaʿfar ibn al-Muqayyar and a number of others told us, saying: Yahyā ibn Abī al-Suʿūd informed us; the two of them said: Shuhdah bint Aḥmad reported to us; Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan reported to us; Abū ʿAlī ibn Shādhān reported to us; Daʿlaj reported to us; Bishr ibn Mūsā narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn Ḥakkām narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated from Muḥammad ibn Abī Bakr ibn ʿAmr ibn Ḥazm, from ʿAbbād ibn Tamīm, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Zayd al-Anṣārī:
Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sought rain, he would turn his cloak inside out. (1)
