‘Kisra will perish, and there will be no Kisra after him; Caesar will likewise perish, and there will be no Caesar after him; and the treasures of both will most certainly be spent in the cause of Allah.’ Agreed upon.
The Kisra and the Caesar who were alive when he ﷺ spoke these words did indeed perish. No other Kisra succeeded that Kisra, and no other Caesar arose in the Levant. Their hoards were expended in the path of Allah during the caliphate of ʿUmar—may Allah be pleased with him. The Caesars, however, retained dominion over the Byzantines and Constantinople, for the Prophet ﷺ had said, ‘His rule shall remain,’ because that Caesar honored the Prophet’s letter—until Allah, exalted is He, decrees the conquest of Constantinople. As for the dynasty of the Kisras, it never returned, for he ﷺ had said, ‘His kingdom will be torn apart,’ when that Kisra tore up the Prophet’s letter.
Hammād ibn Salamah narrated—from Yūnus—from al-Ḥasan—that ʿUmar—may Allah be pleased with him—was brought a cloak that had belonged to Kisra, and it was laid out before him. Among those present was Suraqa ibn Mālik ibn Juʿshum. ʿUmar handed him the two bracelets of Kisra ibn Hurmuz, and Suraqa put them on so that they reached up to his shoulders. When ʿUmar saw the bracelets on Suraqa’s arms, he exclaimed, ‘Praise be to Allah! The two bracelets of Kisra are now on the arms of Suraqa, a Bedouin from the Banū Mudlij!’
Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated—from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid—from Qays—from ʿAdiyy ibn Ḥātim—that the Prophet ﷺ said, ‘Al-Ḥīrah was shown to me like the fangs of dogs, and you will certainly conquer it.’ A man rose and said, ‘Messenger of Allah, grant me the daughter of Baqīlah.’ He replied, ‘She is yours.’ She was given to him. Her father later came and asked, ‘Will you sell her?’ The man answered, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘For how much?’ He replied, ‘Set whatever price you wish.’ The father said, ‘One thousand dirhams.’ The man said, ‘She is yours.’ People told him, ‘Had you asked thirty thousand, he would have paid it.’ He replied, ‘Is there any number greater than one thousand?’
Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz narrated—from Rabīʿah ibn Yazīd and Makḥūl—through Abū Idrīs al-Khawlānī—from ʿUbayd Allah ibn Ḥawālah al-Azdi—who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘You will form armies: one army in Greater Syria, one army in Iraq, and one army…’
