Al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated—through ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-ʿAlāʾ ibn Zabr—that Basr ibn ʿUbayd Allāh told us he had heard Abū Idrīs al-Khawlānī say: I heard ʿAwf ibn Mālik al-Ashjaʿī say, “I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the expedition of Tabūk while he was sitting in a leather tent. He said to me, ‘O ʿAwf, count six events that will take place before the Hour: my death; then the conquest of Jerusalem; then a widespread death that will strike you like the disease that fells sheep; then the overflowing of wealth among you until a man is given one hundred dinars yet remains dissatisfied; then a tribulation that will enter every Arab household; then a truce between you and the Byzantines (Banū al-Aṣfar). They will betray it and will advance upon you under eighty banners, each banner accompanied by twelve thousand men.’” Al-Bukhārī recorded this report.
Ibn Wahb said: Ḥarmalah ibn ʿImrān informed me, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Shamāsah, who heard Abū Dharr say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “You will conquer a land where the unit called the qīrāṭ is mentioned. Treat its people well, for they enjoy the protection of Allah (dhimmah) and a bond of kinship.” Narrated by Muslim.
Al-Layth and others narrated—from Ibn Shihāb—from a son of Kaʿb ibn Mālik—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When you conquer Egypt, be good to the Copts, for they have a covenant and a kinship bond.” This is a mursal report with a sound chain.
Mūsā ibn Aʿyan also transmitted it—from Isḥāq ibn Rāshid—from Ibn Shihāb—from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik—from his father—with a fully connected chain.
Ibn ʿUyaynah remarked, “Some people say Hājar, the mother of Ishmael, was a Copt, and others say Māriyah, the mother of Ibrāhīm, was a Copt.”
Maʿmar narrated—from Hammām—from Abū Hurayrah—who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said
