Ibn Mardawayh said: “He was born on the Day of Tarwiyah in the year 269 AH.”
I (the author) add: He lived for eighty years.
In his Muʿjam he narrated from four hundred teachers. He collected hadith in Isfahan, Hamadhan, Baghdad, Kufah, Basrah, the Two Sanctuaries, Wasit, Rayy, and Khuzestan.
He had three brothers—Ibrahim, Hasan, and Husayn—and each of them left offspring and descendants.
As for Abu Saʿid al-Hasan ibn Ahmad (1), he reported from Abu Hatim al-Razi and Ahmad ibn Yunus al-Dabbi. His nephew Saʿid ibn Abi Ahmad transmitted from him.
Hasan also had a son who narrated. Abu Bakr ibn Mardawayh stated in his History: “Abu ʿUmar Ahmad ibn al-Hasan related to us; ʿAbdan related to us; Ibn Sabur al-Raqqi related to us,” and he went on to cite a hadith.
As for Saʿid (2) ibn Abi Ahmad al-ʿAssal—Abu Muhammad, a well-known figure—he transmitted from ʿAli ibn Muhammad ibn Rustum, Abu al-Hasan al-Lunbani, Muhammad ibn ʿAli ibn al-Jarud, and a number of others.
