Chapter: His foretelling of events that came to pass exactly as he had foretold.
Shuʿbah narrated—from ʿAdī ibn Thābit—from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd—from Ḥudhayfah—who said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ related to me everything that will occur until the Hour is established; the only thing I did not ask him about was what will cause the people of Medina to leave it.” Related by Muslim.
Al-Aʿmash narrated—from Abū Wāʾil—from Ḥudhayfah—who said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once stood before us and, in that address, left nothing that would happen up to the Day of Resurrection without mentioning it. Whoever had prior knowledge retained it, and whoever lacked it remained unaware”—in another wording: “whoever memorised it, memorised it.” Ḥudhayfah added, “Events occur from what he mentioned, and I recognise them just as a man recognises another man’s face after being away from him; then, when he sees him again, he immediately knows him.” The Two Shaykhs related this in meaning.
ʿAzrah ibn Thābit reported: ʿAlbaʾ ibn Aḥmar told us; he said: Abū Zayd told us: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in the dawn prayer, then ascended the pulpit and preached until the time for the noon prayer arrived. He descended, performed the prayer, then ascended the pulpit again and preached until—I think he said—the time for the mid-afternoon prayer. He came down, prayed, ascended once more, and preached until the sun had set. He informed us about everything that had happened and all that is yet to come, so the one who retained the most is the most knowledgeable among us.” Related by Muslim.
Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid narrated—from Qays—from Khabbāb—who said: “We complained…”
