Al-Khaṭīb (1) judged him trustworthy and said, “He passed away in Rabīʿ al-Awwal of the year 347 AH, at the age of ninety-eight.”
Through his line of transmission we possess a copy of Wakīʿ’s work, and the students pronounce his name Ibn Māti—with a kasrah—so that form also seems acceptable.
