His hadiths are found with a high isnād in al-Thaqafiyyāt (1) and in al-Khilaʿiyyāt (2).
I possess a fascicle of his narrations: al-ʿIzz ibn al-Farrāʾ related it to us, Ibn al-Bunn related it to us, my grandfather related it to us, Abū al-Qāsim ibn Abī al-ʿAlāʾ related it to us, and Ibn Naẓīf transmitted it from him.
In that collection Abū al-Fawāris says: “I was born in Muḥarram of the year 245 AH, and I began listening to hadith when I was ten.”
I add: he lived ninety-four years after he first began hearing hadith.
He passed away in Shawwāl of the year 349 AH in Egypt, at one hundred and five years of age. He was personally truthful, yet not an authoritative source, and a fabricated report was slipped to him which he then narrated.
Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī told us, Jaʿfar al-Hamadhānī told us, Abū Ṭāhir al-Silafī told us, ʿAlī ibn Mardak in Rayy told us, Abū Saʿd al-Sammān told us, and Abū al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Ḥāj together with Abū ʿAlī ibn Mahdī al-Rāzī told us:
Abū al-Fawāris ibn al-Sindī informed us, Muḥammad ibn Ḥammād al-Tihrānī narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Razzāq informed us, from Maʿmar, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUrwa, from ʿĀʾisha, from Abū Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
“I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, ‘Gazing upon ʿAlī’s face is an act of worship.’ (3)”
This is the report that was inserted into Abū al-Fawāris’s transmission.
