al-Isfarāyinī, his son Abū Nuʿaym ʿAbd al-Malik al-Azhari, and others besides.
Al-Ḥākim said, “He passed away in the year 346 AH.”
I add: His hadith are cited abundantly in al-Bayhaqī’s compilations through the chain of ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī the Qurʾān-reciter from him.
- Aḥmad ibn Manṣūr ibn ʿĪsā, Abū Ḥāmid al-Ṭūsī
The shaykh, imām, ḥāfiẓ, and discerning critic—Abū Ḥāmid al-Ṭūsī, the man of letters.
Al-Ḥākim praised him in the strongest terms, saying, “He came to Nīshāpūr several times, and I have seldom seen among the senior scholars anyone more comprehensive than he.” (1)
He studied under ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shīrawayh, Ibrāhīm ibn Isḥāq al-Anmāṭī, and that entire class of Qutaybah’s and Isḥāq’s students.
He himself (2) said: “I entered Ṭūs while its judge was Abū Aḥmad the ḥāfiẓ, and I heard him say,
‘I take pride in Aḥmad ibn Manṣūr, for whenever I need to ask about the shaykhs I refer back to him.’” (3)
Al-Ḥākim further related that he died in the year 345 AH.
