Consequently, he was never again able to raise that hand to his mouth. Recorded by Muslim.
Ḥumayd narrated—on the authority of Anas—that ʿAbd Allāh ibn Salām came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when the Prophet first arrived in Madinah and said, “I am going to ask you about three matters that only a prophet can know: What is the first of the portents of the Hour? What will be the first food the people of Paradise eat? And why does a child sometimes resemble his father and at other times resemble his mother?” The Prophet replied, “Gabriel has just informed me about them.” ʿAbd Allāh remarked, “That is the angel whom the Jews regard as their enemy.” The Prophet continued, “As for the first of the portents of the Hour: a fire that will gather the people from the East to the West. Yūnus ibn Bukayr related—from Abū Maʿshar al-Madani—from al-Maqburī in a mursal report—something similar, adding: “As for resemblance, whichever of the two drops (of semen) reaches the womb first, the child will take after that one.”
Muʿāwiyah ibn Sallām narrated—from Zayd ibn Sallām—from Abū Sallām—that Abū Asmāʾ al-Raḥabī told him that Thawbān said: I was standing beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a Jewish scholar approached and said, “Peace be upon you, O Muḥammad.” I shoved him, nearly knocking him over. He protested, “Why did you push me?” I replied, “Why do you not say, ‘O Messenger of Allah!’?” He answered, “I merely called him by the name his own people gave him.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, “Indeed, the name my people gave me is Muḥammad.”
The Jew asked, “Where will people be on the Day when the earth is replaced by another earth?” The Prophet said, “In darkness beneath the Bridge.” He asked, “Who will be the first to cross it?” The Prophet replied, “The poor emigrants.” He asked, “What will be their welcome gift when they enter Paradise?” He said, “The extra lobe of the great fish’s liver.” He asked, “And what will they eat after that?” He replied, “A bull will be slaughtered for them—"
